Sometimes you stand in the middle of your living room looking around at your house and get the urge to just change the way things look. You don’t need to be selling your house to want to do quick remodeling projects that will add some character to your home. If you have 10 minutes or so to give to a project, then there are ways you can change the look of your house without spending a fortune.
Make Use Of Old Jars
Some people save glass food jars for years and often have no idea why. If you have a few clean glass jars that are just taking up space, then it is time to put them to good use decorating your home. If you have some food coloring and sugar you don’t mind using, you can separate the sugar into different bowls and then use a different food coloring for each bowl. Mix the color in and start filling the jars with different levels of colors. Be sure to put the tops back on the jars to prevent the sugar from attracting pests.
Create A Display Shelf
If you look around your home, you are destined to find at least a few shelves that look like they have been collecting junk and dust for years. Since you have not needed those items for years, throw them out or give them to charity and make way for decorative items. A little furniture polish and a rag to make the shelf look like new and in 10 minutes you have turned an eyesore into a display spot.
Make Natural Frames
If you have pictures lying around that you have always wanted to frame, then all you need to make frames are sticks from outside, tape and some twine. Go outside and grab four sticks per picture that are long enough to act as one side of a picture frame. Tie the stick at the corners and tape the picture into place from behind. A little more twine at the top in a loop for hanging and you have framed pictures in less than 10 minutes.
Let The Light In
Grab some window cleaner and a rag and spend 10 minutes cleaning the inside of all of your downstairs windows. Once the windows are clean, you will notice a tremendous increase in the amount of natural light in your home. If you are feeling ambitious, you can add a few more minutes and clean the outside of your windows as well.
Create Floor Space
Move some furniture around in your living room and remove clutter that you have been meaning to throw away for months and watch as you create more floor space and make the room look much bigger. Little projects like this are also great to do before you put your home on the market to increase its value.
The next time you are sitting around in your house wondering what you can do, think about investing 10 minutes into a small project that will make your home look bigger and allow you to turn off those electric lights and save money on your energy bill.
